I’m not the biggest fan of hard magic (or anything too “sciency”) but I ended up really liking the way alchemy works in this show. I think it does emphasize my biggest problems with hard magic by immediately bypassing its own limits (i.e. allowing Ed to transmute without a circle), but alchemy ended up being really fun to watch and just fantastical enough to keep me engaged.
