Her earlier flight, however, had been canceled due to a mechanical issue and she was pushed to stand-by on my flight, a couple hours after her original flight. Timing was now such that that dad could drop off the child at child care, catch his flight and mom (the lady in front of me) would pick up the boy around 5–6pm, just before the day care facility closed for the day. The problem was that she was stand-by… she was #1 in line for a seat, but it was sold out and almost everyone had already checked in. She wasn’t going to get on this flight and the one in 3 hours wouldn’t get her home in time to pick up her son from child care.
