This is a Virginia Tech Softball Beware of Home Runs tee Shirt question. Nostalgia is the feeling when get when some stimulus takes us back to another time and place. Sometimes, that other time or place is unpleasant, but sometimes even hard times or memories hold special value or even good memories we seek to recall from time to time. For many, myself included, there are many songs that, for no particularly reason at all, remind us of our war. For me, that is a playlist on my iTunes called “Watchtower Records”, a joke to myself of all the songs I would be listening to during my time on deployment, literally in a watchtower providing sentry and overwatch duty to a massive section of the base in a job that I wasn’t supposed to have smuggled an iPod into. Mostly, they are just songs from that period of time, late 2005 and late 2007. Some are love songs sent to me in burned CDs from my wife at home. Some are downloaded themes of Anime I would burn away the hours watching. Most were just copied from friend’s hard drives, but to me they are the songs that can’t help but take me back to Iraq when I listen to them today.
It just got weirder at work after that, the benefits dramatically changed, and a Virginia Tech Softball Beware of Home Runs tee Shirt later when I came back after a 2 week FMLA pneumonia episode I found my desk had been moved. I’d been working the last of the actual paper claim files and everything was strewn about my desk like a tornado hit it. Papers, estimates, and photos all over the floor, files piled up willy nilly on top of my desk, most were now empty, just an unbelievable mess, and so rude. I couldn’t believe they’d treat their own property in such a careless manner so instead of trying to make sense of the useless damage the company caused I simply put my employee building pass on my supervisor’s desk, walked back to the elevator and left. As I was walking back to the elevator another mature employee was coming in to work early and said to me in passing, hey you’re going the wrong direction! I said nope, I’m heading in the right direction finally, and I’ve never regretted my decision. If that’s the last insurance carrier I would never use them.

A fundamental tenet of academic freedom is that a professor’s position at a Virginia Tech Softball Beware of Home Runs tee Shirt should be based on the academic merit of their scholarly works. That means that their extramural speech (i.e., speech they exercise on matters of public concern, not their scholarly research, or external to their role at a university) should not be a basis for action against them by the university (so long as it is lawful speech). A tweet like this is an example of extramural speech. The notion that he was actually calling for genocide is absolutely ridiculous and based on tearing the statement out of context. It says more about the people attacking him than what he said. The university’s knee-jerk condemnation not only runs counter to that principle, but also raises questions about whether the university has an adequate information-gathering process in place. They should have gathered the evidence before condemning him so publicly. Due process is another component of academic freedom.

Bob Marley One of the first shows I ever worked on. This was at the Santa Barbara Bowl. There was a downstairs dressing area and instead of using a catering service he and the Wailers brought their own people, I assume from Jamaica. They didn’t want any white people to touch the food only their crew, this was for religious reasons. I recall that they ground up coconut and sort of battered some fish with this and grilled it. Bob was much shorter and smaller than I imagined and as I am not too tall he was about my size. He had an intimidating look and I was young and for some reason felt a bit intimidated by him. Great show and boy did he and his crew/band smoke the weed. This was the one and only show I worked with Bob. Little River Band.. Nothing much to recall, seemed nice. Black Sabbath/Blue Oyster Cult-Ventura Fairgrounds. Well, I don’t like this kind of music but they were surprisingly nice and friendly. I doubt anyone will remember a band called “Honk” but they were from Laguna Beach and did the soundtrack for a surfing movie called “Five Summer Stories”. They were very laid-back, down-to-earth and a Virginia Tech Softball Beware of Home Runs tee Shirt to work with. They played a UCSB stadium show with The Beach Boys.
