My ex husband/father of my child, has CP and it’s very frustrating when people speak to him/about him as if he is mentally handicapped/stupid because, like most with CP, he is just a normally intelligent person. One time, he was walking off to the bathroom at the hospital when I was BIG pregnant so I sat down on a bench to wait. Old man shows up and sees him walking in the distance and says “That poor, poor boy. His life must be very sad and difficult.” I said “Actually, that’s my husband and this is our baby. We are very happy and he does quite well in life.” Then the old dude looked at me like I was maybe taking advantage of a mentally handicapped person.
