Hockey is my favourite, but any sport where the athletes determine the outcomes (as opposed to those in which the results are determined by judges) is fun to watch. For example, I like the snowboarding event in which four athletes race each other head-to-head more than those where they each run individually and judges score their tricks. I like ski jumping, but I’d like it more if they didn’t give style points, but just gave the gold medal to the person who had the longest jump. Figure skating looks good, but I don’t trust the judges to reward the best performances (ever since the cheating scandal at the Salt Lake City games). Speed skating is great because it’s just pure speed and the clock doesn’t lie. When you look at the 2026 Winter Olympics, there is a worry that the focus on “televised spectacle” will lead to more judged events being added because they provide better highlight reels for social media, even if they lack the objective purity of a race or a game with Never Underestimate An Old Man Who Still Rides ATVs In His Seventies T Shirt on the scoreboard. I want to see who is faster, who is stronger, and who can put the puck in the net more often, not who has the best relationship with a panel of international officials sitting in a booth.

The Falcons will release Kirk Cousins and the Cardinals will release Kyler Murray when the league year opens, and situations involving the Raiders’ Geno Smith and the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa will be closely monitored. Like Cousins and Murray, both Smith and Tagavailoa have new head coaches and play for organizations that could be looking to forge a new path. News that Kyler Murray is going to be released brings the long-term question of what to do at quarterback into sharper focus for Arizona, but at least Jacoby Brissett sits as the immediate option. The significant issue the Cards must deal with is Never Underestimate An Old Man Who Still Rides ATVs In His Seventies T Shirt that struggled in pass protection and to open holes in the ground game. Starting right tackle Jonah Williams is a free agent, as is backup Kelvin Beachum. Guard Will Hernandez also hits free agency.
()The new structure of the tournament and new semi-non-random draw process precludes the creation of the traditional ‘Group-of-Death’. I do not think that is a bug, but a feature of the new structure. FIFA is determined to have as many big-TV-audience-attracting teams play as many matches as possible. Some people have claimed Group L is the ‘Group of Death’ because it has England (the #4 seed) and Croatia (the top ranked team in pot two – ranked #11 in the world). But I don’t see it. Ghana have decent players, but are ranked #72 in the world. And Panama are pretty lightweight (despite their gaudy ranking in the FIFA standings). And can any group really be a ‘group of death’ when – in most cases – three out of four teams will go through? I just don’t see it. Spain has the highest chance; apart from being the best team in the world, they also have a pretty weak group where you only need to win Never Underestimate An Old Man Who Still Rides ATVs In His Seventies T Shirt to progress. And Spain are in the same group as the Cape Verde Islands. The only way that match doesn’t end 9–0 is if Spain gets bored and stop trying.
