Oklahoma State Poised for a Fresh Start in 2025
The countdown in Stillwater is nearly over. With less than a week until kickoff, anticipation for Oklahoma State’s 2025 season is reaching its peak—and for good reason.
Looking at the Cowboys today, it’s almost hard to remember the struggles of 2024. A year ago, OSU limped to just three wins. Now, after an offseason of sweeping changes, the program feels renewed. Head coach Mike Gundy, entering his remarkable 21st season, is steering a roster and staff that look very different, and perhaps more determined, than ever before.
The season opener against UT Martin won’t just mark the beginning of another campaign—it represents the start of a new chapter. Offensive coordinator Doug Meacham and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham headline a coaching staff tasked with flipping the script, while a massive transfer class has brought fresh talent to Stillwater. For the first time, the Cowboys fully leaned into the transfer portal and NIL era, building one of the largest incoming groups in the nation.
Among the newcomers is sophomore offensive lineman Kasen Carpenter, Tulsa’s former starter at center, and Gundy’s first transfer commitment of the offseason. Carpenter embodies both the promise and urgency of OSU’s rebuild: a player with long-term potential who is also eager to make an immediate impact.
“I cannot wait,” Carpenter said. “We’ve been counting down through fall camp. Now that school has started, it feels even closer. We’re ready for next Thursday.”
That readiness is echoed by Gundy himself. After a month of practice, the veteran coach insists this preseason has been refreshingly simple. “It’s been really fun because it’s only been football,” Gundy said. “It hasn’t been all the other junk—it’s just been pure football.”
For the Cowboys, pure football is exactly what’s needed. With new leadership on the sidelines, fresh energy in the locker room, and a fan base hungry for a turnaround, Oklahoma State enters 2025 with a clear message: last year is in the past. The only thing that matters now is what happens next.
